Mission Statement: The Town of Selma Utility Department is constantly striving toward excellence in providing our citizens and customers with reliable electrical, water, and sewer services.
The Town of Selma provides electrical service to 2,650 customers in and around Selma through the operation and maintenance of 2 distribution substations and 7 distribution circuits containing 65 miles of lines. The Town owns and operates its electrical systems and is one of 51 Public Power Cities. The Town is also a member of the North Carolina Eastern Municipal Power Agency. This organization of municipal-owned electric systems in eastern North Carolina holds ownership interests in generating plants on the Progress Energy (formerly Carolina Power & Light Co.) system.
Selma is one of 72 public power communities in North Carolina. Public power is locally controlled and locally operated. The electric revenue stays in towns and helps these public power communities grow and prosper. In most cases, public power communities are able to restore power faster and respond better to customer's needs and concerns. North Carolina's public power communities are united in power to ensure they provide their citizens with a safe, secure, and reliable supply of electricity.
The Electric Department has 6 employees dedicated to providing reliable, responsive, quality services to the community at the lowest reasonable cost. The electrical Department crews are on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Even though we work hard to provide you with dependable and reliable service, extreme weather and equipment failures can cause power outages. If your power goes out, check with your neighbors to see that they are also without power. If they are, call us at (919) 965-9841 during regular business hours, or call 911 after hours or on holidays. If your home is the only one without power, check your circuit breakers or fuses.
