  • Energy Rebate: The Town of Selma will provide a $400 rebate credit per central electric heat pump with heat strips and a $150 rebate credit per high efficiency electric water heater.   • Load Management: Save up to $40 a year on your utility bill.  Contact the Electric Department at (919) 965-8981 or send an email to dbaker@selma-nc.com to sign up for Electric-$ave, a load management program designed to reduce the demand for electricity during peak hours!

Energy-Smart Tips
  • Bake several dishes at the same time in early morning.
  • Avoid overloading your refrigerator.
  • Clean your refrigerator condenser regularly.
  • Insulate/weatherize your home's ceiling, walls, and floors.
  • Wash full load of laundry with cold water.
  • Dry full load of laundry on warm setting.
  • Vent your clothes dryer to the outside.
  • Clean your refrigerator condenser regularly.
  • Thermostat should be 68 F (Winter) and 78 F (Summer).
  • Turn off appliances and lights when not in use. 
  • Use fluorescent lights.
  • Check weather stripping around doors and windows.
  • Change your air conditioning filters regularly.
  • Use a timer on your pool pump.
  • Use ceiling fans to increase air circulation by having the blades rotate to pull the air up in the Summer and down in the Winter.

Safety Tips
  • Be sure appliance cords are in good condition.
  • Never trim limbs that are on power lines. Call us!
  • Install surge protectors on every avenue to the outside world.
