Parks & Recreation

The Town of Selma Parks and Recreation Department recognizes that recreation is a valuable part of life and it seeks to promote enjoyable, constructive leisure and recreational activities that will meet the needs of the surrounding community it serves. The commitment to health education, entertainment, and high morality will be emphasized through all activities and programs conducted or sponsored by the Recreation Department. The Recreation Department will strive to maintain activities that are beneficial to current population needs and create programs that are considered appropriate to the changing needs of the area in and around Selma.

Who we are …. What we do

The Recreation Department sponsors a wide range of youth, adult, and senior athletic programs throughout the year. For youth we provide football, cheerleading, wrestling, soccer,  fast-pitch softball, basketball, baseball, T-ball, and coach-pitch. For adults we offer church softball league.  For our senior adults, we offer pickleball and line dancing along with the Johnston County Senior Games. Festivals, special events, and special programs are provided throughout the year as well. The largest of these events is the Selma Railroad Days Festival that is held during the first weekend of October featuring live entertainment, food, vendors, a children’s area, parade, hollerin’ contest and much more. Selma Saturdays Arts & Crafts Market, the All-American Festival and the Christmas Parade are other events sponsored by the Parks and Recreation department that enhance the livability of our community. Recreation facilities operated by our department include neighborhood parks, tennis courts, a gymnasium, outdoor basketball courts, picnic shelters, and baseball/softball fields. Many facilities are available to rent for birthday parties, company picnics, family reunions, and other functions.

Fall Litter Sweep – September 25th

Join Selma Parks and Recreation and NC DOT in picking up litter along Anderson Street in Downtown Selma.
We will meet at 9:00am at Vick Park for instructions and supplies.
Volunteers are needed.
(Ages +12 and older please due to DOT regulations)

9am – Model Train Display Opens @ Historic Union Station – 500 E. Railroad Street, Selma

Food Truck Rodeo – 5PM – 9PM

5pm – Food Trucks begin serving

5:30pm – Selma Firefighters Assoc. BBQ Cook Off

6pm – “Premium Sound” Band takes stage

8pm – BBQ Cook Off winners announced

Saturday, October 2nd, Railroad Days Festival

8:30a – My Kids Club 5K Run/Walk begins

9am – Model Train Display Opens

10am – Mascot Race begins

10:30am – RR Days Parade begins

11am – Kids Zone Opens

12p – Main Stage Entertainment “RiverMist”

12p – Community Stage Entertainment

3pm – Main Stage Entertainment “StingRayz”

5pm – Kids Zone closes

The Market is held on N. Raiford Street on the 2nd Saturday of the month.

Time: 9am – 1pm (Plan to come early and stay late so you don’t miss anything!)

Raiford Street will be closed from Anderson to Waddell Streets.  Social distancing rules apply.  (Please Call ahead before attending our events as they may be affected due to NCDHHS’s recommendation regarding COVID-19)
