Public Works

The Town of Selma Public Works Department is constantly striving toward excellence in providing our citizens and customers with reliable infrastructure, water, and sewer services.

The Public Works Department consist of four divisions: Trash & Recycling Collection and Disposal, Streets & Stormwater, Public Facilities & Grounds, and Cemetery.

Water/Sewer Operations consists of two divisions: Sewer & Wastewater Collection and Distribution, and the Water Plant.

Public Works Department

The four divisions of Public Works Department are supervised by:

Trash & Recycling Collection and Disposal – Sammy Fernandez, GFL/Waste Industries
Streets & Stormwater – Bobby Pearce, Public Services Supervisor
Public Grounds & Facilities, and Cemetery– Ben Scoggins, Public Grounds & Facilities Superintendent

The Public Works Department also performs services such as:

Sewer & Wastewater Collection and Distribution – Pom Park, Collection & Distribution Superintendent
Water Plant – Matthew Morris, Water Plant Superintendent/ORC

Cemetery

There are two Burial Facilities located in the Town of Selma,

Selma Memorial Gardens
Greenwood Cemetery

Both Cemeteries are managed by the Cemetery Specialists, who are responsible for Cemetery maintenance and burials. Cemetery Specialists provide year-round maintenance of Selma Memorial Gardens and Greenwood Cemetery. Cemetery Specialists are responsible for the coordination of interment services with Funeral Directors and are tasked with grave openings and closings.

Solid Waste Services

The Public Services Department contracted GFL/Waste Industries to provide a trash and recycling program that ensure a clean and healthy environment for our Town. The following duties are performed by GFL/Waste Industries:

The Town of Selma provides the following services for the citizens of Selma:

Yard Waste Collection
Collection of Minor Construction and Demolition Materials performed by the homeowner. Call 919-965-9841 ext. 1004 to schedule pick up.

The Town of Selma/ GFL/Waste Industries Restrictions:

Appliances can be dropped off at the Jones Brothers Convenience Center. We will not pick them up.
*Bulk Items that are infested with bed bugs are collected by the Town of Selma.
Any construction that is done by a contractor or professional must be removed by the contractor.
Major Construction Materials will incur a fine if the Town of Selma has to remove it.

Our Mission

The Town of Selma Utility Department is constantly striving toward excellence in providing our citizens and customers with reliable electrical, water, and sewer services.

The Town of Selma Water and Sewer Division has 6 employees dedicated to providing safe and reliable water and sewer services for 2,900 customers in and around Selma. The division is responsible for treating an average of 750,000 gallons of water per day, maintaining and repairing 18 sewer lift stations, and 40 miles of water and sewer lines. Other activities in support of water and sewer services include maintaining and repairing water distribution and wastewater water collection system; constructing water and sewer lines; installing water and sewer connection to new homes and businesses; and repairing, installing, and replacing water meters.

Water and sewer division has crews on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Normal office hours are Monday through Friday, except holidays, from 6:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. You may reach us at (919) 965-9841 (Town Hall) or (919) 965-2244 (water plant). After-hour calls or holidays, please call 919-934-9411.

The mission of the Facilities and Grounds Division is to provide the citizens of Selma with well-maintained public buildings and grounds. All of the Town’s Buildings and Grounds are maintained by this division including both cemeteries. The Public Grounds and Facilities Division of Public Services is responsible for Cemetery maintenance and burials. They provide year-round maintenance of Selma Memorial Gardens and Greenwood Cemetery.

The Town of Selma is committed to providing compassionate bereavement services to families who are suffering through the loss of loved ones. We strive to make the process of lot purchases and interment plans simple and stress-free. We demonstrate our compassion and dedication to those whom we serve by reassuring families that the final resting place for their loved one is well maintained and cared for.

The Town of Selma owns and operates two cemeteries within the city limits.

Greenwood Cemetery is located on Chestnut and Green Street.
Selma Memorial Gardens is located on Hwy 301 and Hwy 70.

Lots are only available in Selma Memorial Gardens, with designated sections for 1-grave-plot sales and cremation niches for burial.

The cemetery is open every day from 8:00 a.m. to sunset, with the exception of the following holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Easter Sunday, Mother’s Day, and Father’s Day.
